Tears of Despair is a work that refers to sadness in its many forms—distinct yet rooted in closely related emotional realities. The piece explores despair as a layered state, where individual experiences differ, but all remain bound to a shared human condition of loss. Made of powder-coated steel and resin, the materials emphasize durability and rigidity in contrast with the fragility of emotion. The concept of absorption into the ground evokes mourning, referencing rituals of burial and the earth as a silent witness to grief. This act of being absorbed can also be read as despair itself—heavy, inescapable, and slowly pulling emotions downward. In this way, the work balances material permanence with emotional dissolution, capturing sorrow as both physical and psychological weight.
